September 23, 2017 – Weekend Market Comment

September 23, 2017 – The Dow's highest closing record is 22,331.35, set this week on September 18, 2017. Friday the Dow Jones industrial average came off earlier lows, falling 32 points, with Apple continuing to add to its weekly decline. The index notched an all-time high in Thursday trade before turning negative later in the day; the index closed lower for the first time in 10 days Thursday evening. 



The S&P 500 fell 0.05 percent, with health care and energy moving higher. Centene turned positive on the day and is the biggest gainer in the Health Care Sector, on pace for its best day since Sep. 13 when it gained 8 percent. The Nasdaq composite also pared its losses, down 0.01 percent as health care gathered steam.

September 16, 2017 – Weekend Market Comment

September 16, 2017 – U.S. stocks rose to "cosmic" record levels Friday and posted strong weekly gains.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 64.86 points to close at 22,2686.34, a new record! Boeing, 3M and Apple contributed the most to the gains. The index also posted an intraday high of 22,275.02

The S&P 500 also notched record highs, advancing 0.2 percent to finish at 2,500.23. Friday also marked the first time the index broke above 2,500. Information technology and financials were among the best-performing sectors. The Nasdaq composite outperformed, closing 0.3 percent higher at 6,448.47; it also managed to an intraday record of 6,464.27.
